§ 44-32 Oath of National Guard officers
Commissioned officers of the National Guard shall take and subscribe to the following oath of office:
“I……………………….… do solemnly swear that I will support and
defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia, against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia; that I make this obligation freely, without mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office of…………………………… in the National Guard of the
United States and of the Commonwealth of Virginia, upon which I am about to
enter; so help me God.”
History
This law was first created in 1930. The record of its establishment is cataloged at page 954 of that year’s edition of “Acts of Assembly,” the annual state publication listing all changes made to the Code of Virginia in that year. Unfortunately, the 1930 “Acts” aren’t available online. It has been modified 2 times. Those modifications are cataloged by “The Acts of Assembly,” a state publication, by year and chapter.
