§ 44-137 City and county aid
Every city and county in the Commonwealth having an active National Guard or Virginia Defense Force organization or organizations is authorized to render such financial assistance as it may deem wise and patriotic to such organization or organizations, either by donating land or buildings, or donating the use of land or buildings, or by contributing to their equipment and maintenance.

This law was first created in 1932. The record of its establishment is cataloged at page 761 of that year’s edition of “Acts of Assembly,” the annual state publication listing all changes made to the Code of Virginia in that year. Unfortunately, the 1932 “Acts” aren’t available online. It has been modified 5 times. Those modifications are cataloged by “The Acts of Assembly,” a state publication, by year and chapter. Those modifications are as follows: in 1942, when it was recodified as § 2673(119); in 1948, when it was recompiled as § 44-137; in 1976, chapter 266; in 2014, chapters 30 and 547; in 2015, chapter 221.
