						<section><p>In emergency situations or in the event of delay or error in a state issuance of payments for <span class="dictionary">public assistance</span> and <span class="dictionary">social services</span> to eligible recipients, or expenditures for administration and services, emergency payments shall be issued by <span class="dictionary">local boards</span> as authorized by Board regulations. In emergency situations that result from lost or stolen checks, the <span class="dictionary">Department</span> shall assume liability for losses incurred by <span class="dictionary">local boards</span> due to fraudulent acts by recipients; however, the <span class="dictionary">local board</span> shall make diligent efforts to recoup any such lost funds in accordance with Board regulations.</p></section></text><history>1975, c. 336, &#xA7; 63.1-58.1; 1978, c. 296; 2002, c. 747.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
