						<section><p>Any person from whom a <span class="dictionary">recognizance</span> is required under the provisions of this chapter or who has been committed to jail for failure to give security therefor, may <span class="dictionary">appeal</span> to the <span class="dictionary">circuit</span> <span class="dictionary">court</span> of the county or city, and, in such case, the <span class="dictionary">judge</span> from whose <span class="dictionary">judgment</span> the <span class="dictionary">appeal</span> is taken shall recognize such of the witnesses as he thinks proper; provided, however, that the person taking the <span class="dictionary">appeal</span> may be required to give <span class="dictionary">bail</span>, with good security, for his <span class="dictionary">appearance</span> at the <span class="dictionary">circuit</span> <span class="dictionary">court</span> of the county or city.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 19.1-23; 1960, c. 366; 1975, c. 495; 1978, c. 500.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
