						<section><p>Unless the <span class="dictionary">offense</span> with which the prisoner is charged is shown to be an <span class="dictionary">offense</span> punishable by life imprisonment under the <span class="dictionary">laws</span> of the state in which it was committed, any <span class="dictionary">judge</span>, <span class="dictionary">magistrate</span> or other person authorized by <span class="dictionary">law</span> to admit persons to <span class="dictionary">bail</span> in the Commonwealth may admit the person arrested to <span class="dictionary">bail</span> by <span class="dictionary">bond</span>, with sufficient sureties, and in such sum as he deems proper, conditioned upon his <span class="dictionary">appearance</span> before a <span class="dictionary">judge</span> at a time specified in such <span class="dictionary">bond</span> and upon his surrender for <span class="dictionary">arrest</span> upon the warrant of the <span class="dictionary">Governor</span> of the Commonwealth.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 19.1-66; 1960, c. 366; 1975, c. 495; 2021, Sp.
