						<section><p>The <span class="dictionary">arrest</span> of a person may be lawfully made also by any <span class="dictionary">peace officer</span> or private person without a warrant upon reasonable information that the <span class="dictionary">accused</span> stands charged in the <span class="dictionary">courts</span> of a state with a <span class="dictionary">crime</span> punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. But when so arrested the <span class="dictionary">accused</span> shall be taken before a <span class="dictionary">judge</span>, <span class="dictionary">magistrate</span> or other officer authorized to <span class="dictionary">issue</span> criminal warrants in the Commonwealth with all practicable speed and complaint made against him under <span class="dictionary">oath</span> setting forth the ground for the <span class="dictionary">arrest</span> as in &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Arrest prior to requisition" href="/19.2-99/">19.2-99</a>, and thereafter his answer shall be heard as if he had been arrested on a warrant.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 19.1-64; 1960, c. 366; 1975, c. 495; 2021, Sp.
