This law was first created in 1991. The record of its establishment is cataloged in chapter 643 of that year\u2019s edition of \u201cActs of Assembly,\u201d the annual state publication listing all changes made to the Code of Virginia in that year. Unfortunately, the 1991 \u201cActs\u201d aren\u2019t available online. It has been modified 5 times. Those modifications are cataloged by \u201cThe Acts of Assembly,\u201d a state publication, by year and chapter. Those modifications that can be read on the General Assembly\u2019s website will be linked accordingly. No person shall be eligible to serve on the Advisory Board<\/span> for more than two successive terms.<\/p><\/section>","plain_text":" CODE OF VIRGINIA\n\nADVISORY BOARD ON ACUPUNCTURE; COMPOSITION; APPOINTMENT (\u00a7 54.1-2956.11)\n\nThe Advisory Board on Acupuncture, hereinafter referred to as the\n“Advisory Board,” shall assist the Board of Medicine in carrying out\nthe provisions of this chapter regarding the qualifications, examination,\nlicensure, and regulation of acupuncturists. Nothing in this chapter shall be\nconstrued to authorize the Advisory Board to advise the Board of Medicine in\nmatters pertaining to the regulations of doctors of medicine, osteopathy,\nchiropractic, or podiatry who are qualified by such regulations to practice\nacupuncture.\n\nThe Advisory Board shall consist of five members to be appointed by the Governor\nas follows: three members shall be licensed acupuncturists who have been\npracticing in Virginia for not less than three years; one member shall be a\ndoctor of medicine, osteopathy, chiropractic or podiatry who is qualified to\npractice acupuncture in Virginia; and one member shall be a citizen member\nappointed from the Commonwealth at large. Beginning July 1, 2011, the\nGovernor’s appointments shall be staggered as follows: two members for a\nterm of one year, two members for a term of two years, and one member for a term\nof three years. Thereafter, appointments shall be for four-year terms. Any\nvacancy occurring during a member’s term shall be filled for the unexpired\nbalance of that term.
